15 Oktober; After a week of complete rest I decieded to participate in the Cyclo-cross race in Swier (Ned). My wife, Diana, gained a 3rd place in the women race. Now I will take my second week of complete rest, to start afterwards easy going with my training for next saeson. At all events I decieded to participate the National Championship Track in December.

Again I could escape during the last 20 km with a break away, 9 riders this time. 3 Km before the finish 2 riders attacked and entered the last kilometre with a gap of 50 metres. In the sprint I could catch those two riders and gained my first World Championship in front of Dzmitry Charviakov (Belarus) and Ales Krapez (Slovenia).

6 August; Yesterday evening our team started in the criterium Rund um Dom und Rathaus in Aachen (Ger). This was a very important race for our sponsors. 24 July; Yesterday I raced GP Demi Cars UCI 1.2 in Pétange (Lux). After the first climb I was in the second group behind 14 leaders. Because we were with 5 riders in the chasing group we tried to chase, but no other team was helping and unfortunally we couldn't close the gap. During the last 40 Km the chasing group splitted up and I was together with Danny Sijen and Stephan Janiel in the first part, meanwhile we were riding for the 11th place. Finally I gained a 15th place, Danny Sijen became 21st and Stephan Janiel 23rd. Behind our group Philippe Kluba became 27th and Marc Habets 29th. This week I will have a restweek, so today I went swimming with Diana and our children.

20 July; After a training in the morning I participated in the afternoon in the race Zoutleeuw-Budingen (Bel). Again it was extremely warm with 37°C. After being in the break away our group got caught at the end and finally I finished as 21st.

10 July; Yesterday I raced the criterium in Heinsberg-Oberbruch (Ger). Our team gained good results, Michael Schweizer became 4th, Danny Sijen 7th, I became 9th and Marc Habets 13th. Unfortunally teammate, Bas Robroek, crashed and broke the metacarple of his thumb.

4 July; From 29 June untill 1 Juli I participated in the stagerace GP Gemenc in Hungary UCI 2.2. This was a difficult race on a hilly course, especially the finish of the stages were very difficult. In the general classification I finished as 38th on 9' 22" of the winner, Martin Prazdnovsky (Sparebanken Vest). Unfortunally teammate, Thomas Bontenackels, broke his wrist during a crash in the 2nd stage.

3 July; Today I received the invitation to participate the post-Tour criterium, Profronde Heerlen (Ned), on Friday 28 July 2006.

June

26 June; Yesterday I raced the National Championship of The Netherlands in Maastricht. From the start Rabobank attacked and a lot of riders got dropped in the first laps. After onethird of the race I also got dropped on the Zonneberg. At that moment only 50 riders were left in the race. Finally 36 riders finished the Dutch Championship which was won by Michael Boogerd (Rabobank).

18 June; In the criterium of Kohlscheid (Ger) I finished today on a 5th place. It was a hard race of 50 laps with each lap a difficult climb, next to that the weather was very warm. Winner of the race was my former teammate Markus Ganser (Regiostrom-Senges).

11 June; Today I raced a criterium in Velbert (Ger). Halfway the race I was in the chasing group behind the 4 leaders. Unfortunally we didn't catch the leaders anymore and with 6 laps to go I attacked together with Markus Ganser (Regiostrom-Senges) out of the chasing group. Winner of the race was Lars Teutenberg (Akud), I became 5th.

10 June; Last Wednesday I participated in the race Parel van de Veluwe UCI 1.12 in Harderwijk (Ned). After 191 Km I finished this race in the bunch.

6 June; Newsreport Limburgs Dagblad

5 June; 2nd VICTORY OF SEASON ! In Brunssum (Ned) I won today the Regional Championship of Limburg. After 10 Km I was in a break away of five riders, Davy Fransen, Maikel Paas (both Team NHT), Rik Kavsek (Unibet-Davo), Jeroen Dohmen (Heylen) and I. At the end I stayed in front together with Rik Kavsek and Maikel Paas and it became a sprint with three which I won. Because the Elite riders and the U23 riders had a separate result and the other four leaders were all U23, there were two podiumplaces left. These were claimed by my two teammates Danny Sijen and Bas Robroek who became 6th and 7th in the total result. This was a succesful weekend for our team because there were also gained two victories yesterday, Thomas Bontenackels won in Baelen (Bel) and Christian Miessen won a MTB-race U23 in Eupen (Bel).

1 June; In the criterium of Zaventem (Bel) I gained yesterday a 4th place, teammate Marc Habets became 8th in the result. Winner of the race was the Belgium rider Kevin Ista (VC Roubaix).

May

28 May; Because of a cold I decided to do some good training this weekend instead of racing. Since Wednesday I had to take antibiotics for three days. Today I feel better but I want to take no risks for the Regional Championships next week.

22 May; Saturday we participated with 4 riders in the criterium in Buchten (Ned). From the beginning we controlled the race. With 3 riders we were into the break away of 9 riders , Bas, Marc and I were represent. We could play off our teamtactics and this resulted in a nice victory for teammate Bas Robroek, I became 7th and Marc Habets became 8th.

Sunday we started in the GP Möbel Alvisse (Lux) UCI 1.2 , a beautiful race in Luxemburg. After 25 Km there was a break away of 14 riders included my teammate Michael Schweizer and behind the leaders was a chasing group of 14 riders included me. Finally Michael became 9th and I became 17th. Winner was the Norwegian, Gabriel Rasch (Team Maxbo Bianchi).

14 May; This weekend I raced on Saturday in Remscheid-Lüttringshausen (Ger), this was a hard race with 14 times a 4 Km climb. 9 May; Yesterday I raced in Mal-Tongeren (Bel). Already during the first lap 7 riders escaped including my teammate Marc Habets. After 50 Km we joined the leaders with another 13 riders including me. Finally we stayed in front with 14 riders. During the last 2 laps a strong riding Marc Streel (Bel) attacked and won the race. Teammate Marc Habets prepared me the sprint and because of that I could gain a 3rd place, Marc became 14th.

7 May; Today I participated in the Ronde van Overijssel (Ned) UCI 1.2. During this race there was a lot of wind. After 50 Km I was behind a crash and the peleton splitted. Then we were send into the wrong way and our gap at the first peleton became too big, because of that we had to abandon the race after 110 Km.

3 May; Sad news ! Frans Assez, the manager of my former team Flanders-Prefetex, has died suddenly, just a few days before his 59th birthday. Frans Assez became ill at home after a ride on Tuesday and passed out. He was unable to be revived.

2 May; Rainy weekend! Last Saturday I started in the GP Signal Iduna in Dortmund-Hombruch (Ger). This was a race of 148 Km. The race became extra hard because of the rain after one hour racing. Because the rain it became extremly cold and a lot of riders abandoned. Because of the cold I got a set-back of hunger during the last 40 Km. On that moment we were riding for the 6th place, but I got dropped out of the chasing group and got caught by the next group and finally I became 13th. Winner of the race was the German rider Andre Schulze of Team Lamonta.

Sunday I participated in the criterium in Büttgen (Ger). It was raining from the start and because of that the course with a lot of corners was very slippery. After several crashes, included my teammate Bas Robroek, it seemed better to me to abandon the race and to take no risks with a view to the following races. On that moment only 19 riders were left in the race.

Also my 3 year old daughter Lisa started in the race in  Büttgen (Ger). She had to do 3 laps of 500m. This was the first time ever she competed a cycle race. In her category Lisa got 4th place.

April

23 April; Today we took part in a local criterium in Düren-Merken (Ger). Halfway the race there was a break away of 6 riders included Michael Schweizer from our team. Thus we did slow down the bunch so that the break away stayed in front. Michael became 2nd, behind the leaders Danny Sijen got 7th place, I became 9th and Bas Robroek 11th. Winner of the race was my former teammate with Diametal-Colnago Rik Kavsek (Unibet-Davo).

18 April; Last Sunday the race Rund um Düren (Ger) UCI 1.2 was on our schedule. On the first climb of the Rollersbroich the race broke open immediately. There arose a leading group of 8 riders and there remained a bunch of only 50 riders, where I was in. The break away of 8 riders stayed in front and after 160 Km I became 22nd. Winner became Elnathan Heizmann of Team Regiostrom-Senges.

Easter Monday I took part in a criterium in Ahrweiler (Ger). After Rund um Düren I didn't had the legs which I had hoped to have. In the result I became disappointing 15th.

16 April; Teamcards available ! As from today there are individual photos of me available of Team PZ Racing Aachen. Hereby I want to thank Jos Vanhamel of Getaco Translations for sponsoring my teamcards. Teamcard Tjarco Cuppens

9 April; Today I started in the criterium of Krefeld-Fischeln (Dui). The final break away arose with only 8 laps to go. The next 6 riders could escape; Markus Eichler, Wolfram Wiese (both Regiostrom-Senges), Jason Phillips (Heinz von Heiden), Marco Wesseling (Van Vliet-EBH), Thomas Weyers (König Pilsener) and myself. In the sprint I gained a 3rd place, former teammate Wolfram Wiese won the race.

2 April; Today I participated in the Dutch Classic Omloop van de Glazen Stad in Kwintsheul (Ned). Because of the hard wind it was a difficult race, so this was a typical Dutch race. Finally I finished in the second group as 36th.

March

26 March; A weekend to forget! Saturday we participated with our team in the two-day race Ronde van Midden-Brabant (Ned) UCI 2.12. The course was narrow and dangerous and there were several crashes. After 15 Km I was involved in a crash and had also to change my backwheel, because of that I was too far behind and had to abandon the race.

Today on Sunday, I raced the Clubchampionships of Limburg in Beek (Ned). Because of the wind it was a difficult race and with several riders we had to chase hard to catch the three early leaders. During the last 8 laps I was in the final break away of 4 riders and I finished on a very disappointing 2nd place.

21 March; Last Sunday we participated with our team in the Challenge des Hesbaye in Trognée (Bel) UCI 1.12. Unfortunally I missed the right break away and finished as 35th.

17 March; Yesterday was our teampresentation in Kornelimünster (Ger), in my opinion it was a great succes! On the photo the four Dutch riders, f.l.t.r. Marc Habets, Tjarco Cuppens, Danny Sijen and Bas Robroek.

15 March; Together with Michael Schweizer I participated in the Tour de Taiwan UCI 2.2. The team was a mixteam between Team PZ Racing Aachen and Ruiters Dakkapellen Wielerteam from The Netherlands. The participating riders were; Dennis Leliveld, Hugo Gootjes, Lex Nederlof, Michael Schweizer and I myself. In the 1st stage I finished 4th in the mass sprint, for me that was a good start. Unfortunally during the 2nd stage I had a bad crash, in a descent a Japanese rider drove against me and because of that I crashed with a speed of 65 Km/h. To my fall I kept a lot of plane wounds all over my body, I finished the stage as 21st. Next to that during the 3rd stage I missed the final break away and this appeared later decisive for the general classification. The 4th and 5th stage I did finish both as 23rd. During the 6th stage the finish was on top of a climb of 18 Km. I started this climb in a leading group of 5 riders and could do the climb thus in my own speed. I finished to contentment as 35th. During the 7th stage I became 10th in the mass sprint, in the general classification I finished 34th place.

1 March; From 5 untill 11 March I will participate at the Tour de Taiwan UCI 2.2 .

February

28 February; The teampresentation of Team PZ Racing Aachen will take place on Thursday 16 March at 19.00 hrs in Kornelimünster (Ger).

27 February; The today's race was in Brustem-St.Truiden (Bel) UCI 1.12. After 10 Km a break away of 17 riders escaped and like yesterday I was in it. When we had to stop for a closed level-crossing another 10 riders could catch us, but very fast the leading group split up again and I was in the break away of 11 riders. With entering the local laps 2 riders could escape, thus our group had to sprint for 3rd place and finally I became 4th in the result. My conclusion after this weekend is that my form is good and that gives me confidence for my participation at the Tour de Taiwan next week.

26 February; Today we participated with Team PZ Racing Aachen in Saint-Severin (Bel) UCI 1.12. Our team started with 10 riders during the first race of the year in Belgium. After several attacks I was in the break away of 12 riders. With entering the local laps I escaped with 4 other riders out of the leading group, however 500 metres before the finish 7 riders caught us and finally I became 7th.

23 February; New sports director joins Team PZ Racing Aachen. Next to the present sports directors, Jürgen Wertz, Mario Traini and Hardy Zimmermann, our team will  have per immediately another sports director to disposition, former cyclist Joost Koop from Beek (Ned). Last week Joost has passed his course till sports director successful and he will come strenghten us thus.

19 February; Today was the third trainingrace (road race) in Veldhoven (Ned). Again several riders of Team PZ Racing Aachen were participating , Bas Robroek, Danny Sijen, Marc Habets and myself. Just like last week it wasn't easy to attack out of the bunch, but this time it was more difficult because the Continental Team of Piels started with 16 riders. Halfway the race there was a break away of about 20 riders including Danny and me. During the last 5 laps I escaped together with 4 other riders and I won the race in a sprint. Danny became 11th, Bas and Marc both finished in the bunch. Again this was very motivating for our new team after the victory of Bas last week.

12 February; Today was the second trainingrace (road race) in Veldhoven (Ned). I was there together with my two teammates Bas Robroek and Marc Habets. Because of the wind it wasn't easy to attack. But with 7 laps to go I got away together with Andy Knijpinga. Three riders were chasing under which my teammate Bas Robroek. During the last lap the three riders caught us and that was the moment for Bas to attack. Bas could escape and won the race, I won the sprint for the second place and Marc finished in the bunch. In spite of the fact that this was a trainingrace, it still was a good result for our new team.

8 February; Photos Tour of Siam (Thailand) online.

5 February; Today I participated at the trainingrace (road race) in Veldhoven (Ned). After 20 Km I was in the break away of 10 riders. During the last kilometre I tried to attack but I couldn't escape anymore so I was in leading position when the sprint started and became 4th.

1 February; Today I did a training of 145 Km together with my teammates Danny Sijen, Bas Robroek, Michael Schweizer and Christian Mieβen. In the morning it was still cold (-4°C), but during the afternoon the temperature became a bit more pleasant (+4°C). At this moment I get used again to the cold temperatures in The Netherlands, comparing with Thailand this is a difference in temperature of 40°C !

January

23 January; Yesterday I returned from Phuket in Thailand. Here we participated with our team PZ Racing Aachen from 15 until 22 January at the Tour of Siam (UCI 2.2). Three times I could gain a top-20 result, during the 3rd stage, where I was also for 150 Km with 5 riders in a break away, I became 9th in the mass sprint. During the 5th stage I became 19th and in the 7th stage 15th. Because of the high temperature of 35°C it was a hard race. Also our team had some bad luck, because during the 3rd stage my teammate Thomas Bontenackels broke his wrist in a crash. In spite of that it was a good start of the season with a great teamspirit within our team.

12 January; This afternoon I will fly from Düsseldorf to Bangkok in Thailand, where I will participate with my new team, PZ Racing Aachen, at the Tour of Siam (UCI 2.2). This stagerace will take place from 15 until 21 January with totally seven stages. More information on www.tourofsiam.com.
