21 November; THE TOUR OF HAINAN IS FINISHED !
Yesterday evening I have returned from China where I have taken part at the Hors Category race Tour of Hainan UCI 2.HC which took place from 11 untill 19 November. There were several strong participants out of Pro-Tour teams and National Teams. In spite of the fact that I couldn't compete for the big prices I gained some nice results, I finished as 11th, 19th and 20th during stages. However in the 4th stage I had a bad crash during the last 4 km when I hit a parked motorbike of a photographer. After nine days I finished at a 97th place in the General Classification. Final winner was the former Pro-Tour rider Francisco Ventoso (Spa), from our team Marc the Maar finished at a 7th place in the General Classification. Below you can find a video of the finish of the 5th stage where I gained an 11th place.
3 November; Today I received the message that I'm nominated as "Cyclist of the year 2009" of the Province Limburg. This is a yearly election chosen by the Club of 24. The other nominated riders are Rob Ruijgh (Vacansoleil) and Roy Curvers (Skil-Shimano). At Monday 7 December the final winner will be announced.
1 November; At this moment I am in full preparation for the Tour of Hainan (UCI 2.HC) in China. During this 9-day stagerace, which will take place from 11 until 19 November, I will end up for the National Team of The Netherlands. The Tour of Hainan is an UCI race of the Hors Category, which is the highest level below the Pro-Tour. The other selected riders for The Netherlands are, Marc De Maar (Rabobank), Maint Berkenbosch (Piels CT), Hans Bloks (Piels CT), Peter Van Agtmaal (Metec), Marc Habets (PPL-Belisol) and Roy De Waal (PPL-Belisol).
Oktober
21 Oktober; Last Sunday I participated at the last race of the European season, Criterium Levallois in Paris (Fra). I missed the final break away of 14 riders and in the last lap I attacked out of the bunch and it seemed to be that I finished as 15th. However the jury rang the bell another time for the last lap and I got caught by the sprinting bunch.
11 Oktober; Today I participated at the race in Alken (Bel). Together with my teammate, Roy de Waal I was in the decisive break away. During the last two laps each of us attacked several times but we got caught again. I finished as 6th and Roy as 8th, we had a gap of 3.15 min. at the bunch.
9 Oktober; Today I had a gastroscopic research in the Orbis Medical Centre, the result was that everything is okay with my flatulence and duodenum. Also my stomach problems are disappeared and I can stop with my medication, which means that the side effects will disappear soon. Next Sunday I will participate as planned at the race in Alken (Bel).
5 Oktober; After my visit to the Atrium Hospital in Heerlen last Wednesday, I still have problems with my stomach. Next Friday I will have a flatulence research at the Orbis Medical Centre in Sittard to check the cause of my stomach problem. In the meantime I have a two week break because of my participation at the Tour of Hainan (China), which takes place from 11 until 19 November.
3 Oktober; Today I participated at the race in Porcheresse (Bel). Halfway the race I was in a chasing group of five riders behind the 12 leaders. Because of stomach problems I abandoned the race after 70 km.
September
28 September; Yesterday I participated, very motivated after my win of last year, at GP Cammaerts in Flawinne (Bel). After 50 km I was in the break away of 16 riders together with my teammate Marc Habets. At the local laps our group totally fell apart and I was in the first group of five riders. At the last climb Jonas Van Genechten (Verandas Willems) attacked and I tried to counter him but came too short and finished at a 2nd place.
22 September; Yesterday I finished as 6th in the criterium in Hoeilaart (Bel).
20 September; Today I had the Eurode Omloop in Kerkrade (Ned) on my schedule and with 39 climbs it was a hard race. 60 km before the finish I was in the break away of four riders who took one minute at the bunch. However the peleton did chase and caught us back. 7 km before the finish my leg cramped and I had to let go the small bunch. Finally I finished last at a 42nd place of 156 competitors.
14 September; Yesterday we took part with our team at the final of the Clubcompetition, also called the National Championship for Clubteams. During the Team Time Trail we finished at a disappointing 8th place, only 11 seconds behind the 2nd place. During the "Coevorder Stad en Dorpen Klassieker" I was always in the right break away and after the second half of the race I was in the first group of 19 riders. In the final of the race only 10 riders were left in the break away, including teammate Mitch Pluijmaekers and I. In the last kilometers we escaped with 5 riders which were riding for the victory. At 600m before the finish I attacked but immediately I got countered, in the sprint I finished at a 3rd place. After 170 km Jeff Vermeulen (AA Drink Cycling Team) became the winner.

8 September; During the race in Born (Ned) I finished at a 12th place, in spite of the fact that I won the bunchsprint while only 7 riders were in front and therefor I actually finished at an eight place. A lot of riders complained that the result was not correct.
7 September; Yesterday I took part at the Baronie Breda Classic (Ned). Because of the wind it was a nervous race with several crashes. After 30 km I was the only rider of our team represented in break away of 29 riders. In the final of the race the break away fell apart and after 180 km I finished at a 12th place. Winner of the Baronie Breda Classic was Marco Bos (Cycling Team Piels).
August
31 August; Last Sunday I participated at the UCI World Championship Road Race Masters (30-34 yrs.) in St.Johann (Austria). In the beginning I missed the break away of 10 riders which had 1.30 min. ahead. After chasing with six riders we could close the gap at seven riders, but unfortunately three riders stayed away. During the last kilometer I attacked out of the chasing group and gained a 4th place. Winner of the race was the Italian, Alessandro D'Andrea (ex-Acqua & Sapone).
26 August; Yesterday I took part at again a race of the Radweltpokal in Sankt Johann in Tirol (Aut). Again the chasing group of 24 riders was riding for the 2nd place at the end of the race. I tried to attack during the last kilometer but they caught me again. In the sprint I gained an 8th place. Winner was again the strong Italian rider, Michele Maccanti (ex-Team LPR).
24 August; This morning I participated at the International Alpine Cup Wilder Kaiser in Kirchdorf (Aut). This was a climb race of 12 km. With 15 leaders we started at the last kilometer, but with 500m to go I couldn't follow the first riders anymore and gained a 10th place.
23 August; Today I took part at my first race during my stay in Austria, the Radweltpokal in Sankt Johann in Tirol (Aut). At the end there was one leader and I was in the chasing group of 16 riders, which sprinted for the 2nd place. Finally I finished at a 5th place. Winner was former Team LPR rider, Michele Maccanti (Ita).
17 August; Today in Kotem (Bel) I finished at a 2nd place. Teammate Jeroen Dohmen gained a 6th place.
16 August; Yesterday we had the last classic of the clubcompetition, the Omloop van de Zuid-Hollandse Eilanden in Spijkenisse (Ned) on our schedule. Halfway the race I was in a break away of 6 riders and we stayed 60 km in front with a maximum lead of 1.30 min. However after 120 km we got caught again and I missed the final break away of 7 riders. After 167 km I became third in the bunchsprint and finished at a 10th place.
14 August; NEW TEAM 2010 ! In Luxembourg I signed a contract with 'Continental Team Differdange' for the season 2010. I'm looking forward to race for this Continental Team next year. This Luxembourg team will participate in most of the UCI-races in Europe, like the Tour de Luxembourg (Lux) UCI 2.HC and Circuit de Lorraine (Fra) UCI 2.1, but they also take part at the Hel van het Mergelland UCI 1.1 in The Netherlands. 12 August; Last Sunday we participated with our team, PPL-Belisol Cycling Team, at the Danisch classic Fyen Rundt (Den). After 217 km 18 leaders with Michael Rasmussen and Anders Lund (Saxo Bank) kept out of the reach of the bunch. Unfortunately during the sprint I got cramp and because of that I finished in the back of the bunch.
Monday I took part at the race in Banneux (Bel), also there I had some bad luck. Already during the first lap a spoke broke in my rearwheel and my race was over.
7 August; In the Post-Tour criterium, Ridderronde of Maastricht, I finished as 13th. Winner of the race was Niki Terpstra (Milram).
2 August; Today I took part at the race in Hasselt-Rapertingen (Bel). After yesterday's race I didn't had good legs and got classified at a 60th place.
Yesterday evening I gained a 5th place during the 'Night of Waubach' in my hometown Landgraaf (Ned). Winner of the race was my teammate Rob Ruijgh.

30 July; In the Luxembourg pro criterium, Gala Tour de France, I finished at a 16th place. Winner of the race was Fränk Schleck (Saxo Bank) in front of world champion Allessandro Ballan (Lampre-NGC) and Kim Kirchen (Team Columbia-HTC).
27 July; During the race in Schifflange (Lux) I finished at a 4th place and teammate Marc Habets at a 6th place.
25 July; I received contracts for the Post-Tour criteriums, Gala Tour de France Luxembourg (Lux) and Ridderronde of Maastricht (Ned).
19 July; Today I gained a 5th place during the criterium in Kohlscheid (Ger).
14 July; Yesterday I took part at the Ronde van Veldhoven (Ned). In this fast criterium I finished at a 16th place.
12 July; Today I finished at an 8th place in Düren-Merken (Ger). Winner of the race was Robert Retschke (CT Differdange) in front of Luke Roberts (Kuota-Indeland).
11 July; 7th VICTORY OF SEASON ! Today I gained a nice victory in Welkenraedt (Bel). Right from the beginning I made several attacks and I always was in the right break aways. During the last lap I could jump to the three leaders, however at the moment I caught them, the Belgium rider Simon Collard attacked. After I had to recover shortly I made the jump to Collard and won in a sprint with two ! My teammate Raymond Werst finished at a 3rd place. After the race there was an anti-doping control for the first six riders, this was my 3rd doping control this season.

6 July; The last two days I had bad legs in Wolder (Ned) and Schaal Schoeters in Beveren (Bel). During the race in Wolder a wasp flew into my helmet and I got sticked 3 times in my head, which was very painful. The results of these two races were disappointing, after a 2nd place in Wolder last year, I finished now as 27th. In Schaal Schoeters I finished in the bunch at a 73rd place.
4 July; Yesterday I took part at the race in Vianden (Lux). At the end I gained a 2nd place and my teammate Marc Habets finished as 13th. My other teammate, Kaj Slenter, had an unlucky crash and had to abandon the race.
June
27 June; Yesterday evening I participated at the criterium, Großer Coelanpreis in Coesfeld (Ger). Before the criterium I took part at the elimination race in which I gained a 3rd place. During the criterium I was constantly in the front and at the end I finished 2nd in a close sprint behind the German winner Nils Thiesen.

22 June; Yesterday I took part at the Dutch Championship Road Race for Elite-Amateurs in Bourtange (Ned). Because of the wind and the narrow streets through Bourtange it became a hard race where the bunch splitted up in different groups. Eventually I finished in the second group at a 23rd place, teammate Rob Ruijgh gained a 10th place.
14 June; Today we had the PPL Hilss Classic on our schedule, which was a home race for our team. With 27 climbs it was a very hard race. After climbing the Keutenberg and the Cauberg a final selection had been made and we started at the 6 local laps with each time the Raarberg. During the final my teammates Rob Ruijgh and Maikel Paas were in the break away of 6 riders. Finally Rob gained a nice 2nd place and Maikel became 4th. I finished at a 9th place and teammate Tom Dumoulin became 14th. Winner of the PPL Hilss Classic was Johan Landström from Sweden.
8 June; During a disappointing Ronde van Limburg (Ned), where I have worked the first half of the race for my team captain, Rob Ruijgh, I didn't have the good legs during the final of the race on which I had hoped. In spite of everything our team, PPL-Belisol, gained a good result with a 5th place of Maikel Paas and a 10th place of Rob Ruijgh.
5 June Thursday evening I participated together with Marc Habets at the Randcriterium in Zaventem (Bel). It was a fast race including a short climb. With 2 laps to go Marc did an everything or nothing attempt to catch the 6 leaders. Unfortunately my jump came too late and I came 10 metres short to catch the leaders. Finally I finished at an 8th place.
2 June; Yesterday I started at the District Championship of Limburg in Hoensbroek (Ned). At the end of the race I was in the break away of 3 riders together with my teammates Ruijgh and Tom Dumoulin. Because Tom was the only U23-rider in the front he gained the title in the U23-category. After I won the District Championship with the Elite-riders the last 4 years, it was now Rob's turn to gain the title, which means that I finished 2nd.
May
30 May; Today we participated with our team PPL-Belisol Cycling Team at the Omloop van de Hoeksche Waard in Puttershoek (Ned). Eventually there was a break away of 15 riders including my teammates Rob Ruijgh and Tom Dumoulin as also myself. Unfortunately 2 riders could escape during the last 2 km. After 175 km Sierk-Jan De Haan became the winner and I finished at a 4th place, Rob Ruijgh finished 11th, Tom Dumoulin 15th, Maikel Paas 28th, Roy De Waal 33rd and Tim Schmitz 39th.
25 May; FINAL WINNER SPRINTCLASSIFICATION FLECHE DU SUD ! Yesterday during the 4th stage of the Fleche du Sud (Lux) UCI 2.2, I could defend my leading position in the Sprint Classification successfully. During the first intermediate sprint of stage 4, in which I was second, I secured my orange jersey. During the first and third stage I gained the most points for the final victory of this classification. During the first stage I was more then 60 km in front together with the Luxembourg rider, Claude Wolter. In the final of the stage I was once again in the break away of 7 riders, however 5 km before the finish the bunch caught us again. Because each day I lost too much energy during the intermediate sprints I was not able to gain any good results in stages. But thanks to my teammates I could defend my orange jersey successfully. The winner of the General Classification was the Swiss rider, Simon Zahner.

16 May; 5th VICTORY OF SEASON ! Today I gained a nice victory in Zutendaal (Bel). It seemed that this race was going to end in a bunchsprint, it went however differently. During the last lap the Belgium rider, Mich Vervloet (Team NHT) could escape out of the peleton and thanks to my Japanese teammate, Makoto Shimada, it was possible for me as only rider to close the gap to Vervloet. During the last hill I attacked and cycled solo to my 5th victory of this season. From Wednesday I will take part at the 5-day stagerace Fleche du Sud in Luxembourg.

10 May; 4th VICTORY OF SEASON ! Yesterday we started at the race in Kayl (Lux). Already early in the race there was a break away of 11 riders, including Nick Mulder, Tom Dumoulin and I from PPL-Belisol. With 25 km to go I attacked and could escape together with Bob Jungels and Pit Schlechter from the break away. In the sprint I could win this hard race an gained my 4th victory of this year. Nick finished at a 6th place and unfortunately Tom lost some time because of a unlucky crash. All other teammembers finished in the bunch.

3 May; Today we participated with PPL-Belisol Cycling Team at GP Ostfenster (Lux). Together with Maikel Paas I was in a chasing group behind 4 leaders. Finally Maikel finished as 5th and I as 6th.
2 May; During the Team Time Trail of the clubcompetition in Wieringenmeer (Ned) our team finished at a 10th place in the Region South.
1 May; Yesterday I participated at the Ronde van Geldrop (Ned). During this criterium I finished at a 5th place. Unfortunately 9 laps before the finish my teammate Rob Ruijgh had a bad crash and incurred a fracture of the top part of his thighbone (trochanter major), close to his hip. After a long hospital visit we could finally turn homewards together. The recovery period for Rob will be around 4 weeks.
April
26 April; Today we participated with our team at the Wim Hendriks Trofee (Ned). After good chasing work of my teammates who closed a gap at a dangerous break away twice, this classic finished in a bunchsprint in which I gained a 10th place.
19 April; After a good race today, I finished as 18th at Rund um Düren (Dui) UCI 1.2.
14 April; STAGE WIN IN RÁS MUMHAN (Irl) ! From 10 until 13 we took part at the Kerry Group Rás in Ireland with our team PPL-Belisol Cycling Team. After a 15th place and a 11th place in the first 2 stages I gained my 3rd victory of the season during the 3rd stage ! In the 2nd stage my teammates Roy de Waal and Jeroen Dohmen finished at a 3rd and 4th place. During The 3rd stage, where our team was riding very agressive, we finished with a leading group of 27 riders. In the sprint I claimed the victory before the Irishman Paul Griffin, my teammate Raymond Werst finished 3rd. During the 4th stage I was 2nd in the bunchsprint and finished at a 11th place in that stage. In the General Classification, won by Brian Kenelly, my teammate Roy de Waal finished as 10th, I as 16th and Maikel Paas as 21st.
5 April; Yesterday I finished as 12th during the Omloop van de Braakman (Ned). This was the first race of the Clubcompetition over 152 km with several sections at cobblestones.
March
29 March; 3rd PLACE IN GP FRANÇOIS FABER (Lux). After a hard race in which I attacked a lot, I finished 3rd during the GP François Faber in Contern (Lux). During the final of the race I was in front together with Christian Poos and Håkan Nilsson both of Continental Team Differdange. However Nilsson had a flat tire and Poos dropped me on the second last climb. Because of that I came into the chasing group with 3 riders of CT Differdange, Håkan Nilsson, Fredrik Johansson and Vincenzo Centrone. In the sprint I still could gain a 3rd place, for me this was the maximum result for today.

22 March; Today we participated with our team at the Zuid-Kempense Pijl in Mol-Sluis (Bel). During this very fast race with an average of 45 km/h over 150 km, I finished a bit disappointed in the second bunch as 85th.
15 March; 2nd VICTORY OF SEASON ! During the Open Clubchampionships of Limburg in Echt (Ned) I have gained my second victory of this season. Already early in the race I could escape together with teammate Rob Ruijgh. Because of the hard wind it became tough to make it until the finish. The gap at the chasers was constantly 30 seconds, but eventually our escape succeed and I could win the race. Unfortunately Rob had to let me go into the second last lap and finished 4th, although he deserved to be on the podium.

9 March; Last weekend we had two classics on our schedule. Saturday the Witte Kruis Classic (Ned) and Sunday the Dorpenomloop Rucphen (Ned). During the Witte Kruis Classic I easily could stay in the front and during the final break I was in the first group of 20 riders together with teammate Rob Ruijgh. Unfortunately nobody wanted to ride and therefor a big group of 40 riders caught us again. Several kilometers before the finish a group of 12 riders slipped away and I finished a bit disappointing as 35th. Teammate Roy De Waal gained a nice 6th place, Rob Ruijgh was 47th and Mark Solberg 94th. One day later in the Dorpenomloop Rucphen I didn't had the good legs, but still I could stay reasonable in the front. During the last big lap I had one weak moment and got suprised when the bunch broke into 2 parts. Finally I finished as 40th, my teammate Rob Ruijgh finished 27th and Tom Dumoulin as 60th.
5 March; New personal sponsor ! Today I can announce that I will cooperate with CEP Compression Sportswear and Medi Nederland. They will support me with special sports aimed compression socks, which stimulates a.o. the blood circulation and the recuperation after a hard effort. 1 March; After yesterday's race I had no good legs during the race of today, Haspengouw Dageraad in Brustem-St.Truiden (Bel). I also missed the decisive break away and finished eventually as 19th.

28 February; 1st VICTORY OF SEASON ! Today we had our first official race of the season, the GP Raygeo in Saint-Séverin (Bel). This was a race with one big lap of 100 km and 3 local laps of 8 km. After several attacks, also with some teammates I was in the final break away with 7 riders, including teammate Rob Ruijgh. During the local laps I attacked together with Tony Driesen and because our good cooperation we stayed in front. In the sprint I was the fastest and could gain my first victory of this season.

26 February; Today we are invited with several riders and teammanagement to be special guests in the tv-show 'Limburg Vandaag' at TV Limburg, live between 16.00 and 18.00 hrs.
22 February; Together with several riders of PPL-Belisol Cycling Team we took part at the last trainingrace in Veldhoven (Ned). After racing four weeks on the same course for the most riders it started to get bored, but better this then nothing. At the beginning there was a leading group of 13 riders, but just before we lapped the bunch I attacked and we escaped with 4 riders. With 3 laps to go my teammate Aldo Klomp and I attacked and easily we drove away of the other riders. I granted Aldo the victory and therefore I became 2nd. My other teammate, Roy de Waal finished as 3rd. Finally the trainingraces are finished and next week the 'real races' will start.

15 February; Today we started with our complete team at the 3rd trainingrace in Veldhoven (Ned). After several attacks I could escape together with Marc de Maar (Rabobank PT) and Jesse de Haan (B&E). After 1 hour we lapped the complete bunch, but during the sprint Marc de Maar was too strong for me. In spite of that the complete PPL-Belisol Cycling Team did help me very well and we could control the race.
8 February; Today we participated with PPL-Belisol Cyclingteam at the 2nd trainingrace in Veldhoven (Ned). Already early in the race there was a break away of 13 riders, under which teammate Roy de Waal, I myself and 7 riders of the Continental Team Jo Piels. At the finish it turned to be a sprint between the leaders and I finished 2nd behind Robin Chaigneau (Piels). But the jury decided to disqualify Robin Chaigneau because he waited one lap to change his backwheel after a flat tire, which is apparently not allowed. Because of that I was exclaimed as the new winner. Teammate Roy de Waal finished at a 6th place.
2 February; New bikes at Material !
1 February; Today we participated with our team, PPL-Belisol, at the trainingrace in Veldhoven (Ned). Already early in the race I was in the break away of 7 riders. Also in the break away were Bram Schmitz (Van Vliet-EBH), Dirk Bellemakers (Landbouwkrediet) and Steven Kruijswijk (Rabobank). We did work well together and we lapped the complete bunch. At the end I finished as 4th behind the winner Bram Schmitz.
January
25 January; Together with teammate Marc Habets I participated at the first trainingrace in Oss (Ned). During the first lap we escaped with 3 riders, teammate Marc, Arnold Stam and I. Very soon the gap was more then a minute and halfway the race our gap was more then 2 minutes at the bunch. With 4 laps to go I attacked and rode solo to the victory, Marc finished as 3rd.
10 January; Today together with my teammate Mitch Pluymaekers I participated at the Winter Track Championships in Büttgen (Ger). At the Temporounds I finished at a 4th place and Mitch as 6th. In the Pointsrace we both missed the break and Mitch finished as 14th and I as 15th. The Madison went reasonable and we gained a 3rd place. In spite of that this was a good training because the weather outside is not ideal at all.
