November
29 November; Unfortunately the Tour of Poyang Lake in China is cancelled due some floods near Poyang Lake, which is the biggest lake of China. This means I will not fly to China next Monday.
15 November; Yesterday I received the new Solestar insoles for my cycling shoes. Kenneth Hanzen of ORTHO-VISION will support me by sponsoring these Solestar insoles. By using this carbon insole there will be less power lost during the pushing and pulling of the pedals. According to several tests the Solestar insoles provide a profit of 8%.
01 November; NEW TEAM 2012 - FUJI SINGAPORE ! Next season I will race for Fuji Singapore. My current team, the Taiwanese Continental Team, Fuji-Cyclingtime.com, will stop after this season. Teammanager Brandon Teo from Singapore has also attracted Chris Lintaman to become an advisor for this team. There are also negotiations with my current teammates Lee Rodgers and the two Japanese riders, Takeshi Igarashi and Shusaku Matsuo to join Fuji Singapore next year. Fuji Singapore will take part in races in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China and Taiwan. In December I will participate in the stagerace, Tour of Poyang Lake in China. For several Dutch Classics I have an agreement to work together with the Dutch clubteam TWC Maaslandster Zuid-Limburg. Press Report Landgraaf Koerier
Oktober
23 Oktober; FINAL WINNER MULLENERS VASTGOED TROFEE ! Yesterday the award ceremony of the Mulleners Vastgoed Trofee took place. This is a regularity classification of all races held in the province Limburg. In this ranking I was honored as final winner in front of Raymond Werst (Parkhotel Rooding) and Tom Dumoulin (Rabobank CT).
16 Oktober; Yesterday was my last race of the European season, the Criterium de Levallois in Paris (Fra). Together with Thomas Rieff and Luc Loozen, who participated as guest riders for Fuji-Cyclingtime.com, I traveled to France. From the start the speed was high and after 30 km three riders escaped. In the second last lap another six riders escaped and thus the bunch was riding for 10th place. During the last kilometer Luc brought me perfectly to the front and because of that I was able to win the bunch sprint in front of the current U23 World Champion, Arnaud Démare (CC Nogent-sur-Oise). So I finished in 10th place, Luc finished in 19th and Thomas 56th. The winner of the race was Frenchman Justin Jules (La Pomme Marseille). Photos Daniel Schamps - www.world-of-cycling.com
12 Oktober; Yesterday I took part with the National Team of The Netherlands in the Sluitingsprijs Putte-Kapellen (Bel) UCI 1.1. As usual this race over 184 km ended in a bunch sprint. In the last kilometers I brought Wim Stroetinga to the front into a good position for the sprint. Wim finished on a nice 3rd place, which was a great result for our National Team. Winner of the race was Yauheni Hutarovich (Française des Jeux), I finished in 66th place.
07 Oktober; Next Tuesday I will be participating with the National Team of The Netherlands in the Sluitingsprijs Putte-Kapellen (Belgium) UCI 1.1 .Led by the Dutch national coach, Aart Vierhouten, I will represent the National Team together with Thomas Dekker (Team Chipotle), Nick van der Lijke (Rabobank CT), Moreno Hofland (Rabobank CT), Niek Hooghiemster (Ubbink-Koga), René Hooghiemster (Ubbink-Koga), Wim Stroetinga (Ubbink-Koga) and Jesse de Haan (Koopmans-Batavus).
04 Oktober; Monday I started in the pro race in Oostrozebeke (Bel). In the final 9 riders escaped, so the bunch sprinted for 10th place. By a surprising acceleration in the last kilometer I was in perfect position for the final sprint and finished in second of the bunch on an 11th place. Winner of the race was Niko Eeckhout (An Post) in front of Guillaume Van Keirsbulck (Quickstep).
03 Oktober; Yesterday I took part at Rund um die Burg in Kempen (Ger) together with Stefan Cohnen (Differdange-Magic Sportfood.de). Traditionally this race ended in a mass sprint with about 140 riders. In the last laps Stefan kept me in the front and during the last kilometer he took the lead to prepare me the sprint. Unfortuantely in the sprint I was narrowly defeated by Serge Herz (Stevens) and finished in 2nd place. But Stefan and I were still satisfied with the fact that we could compete with the two of us against several complete teams. Photo Christopher Jobb Photo Jürgen Becker
September
27 September;
18 September; Today I participated in the pro criterium in Eschweiler (Ger). Eventually I finished in 14th place. Winner of the race was André Greipel (Omega Pharma-Lotto) in front of Andreas Stauff (Quick-Step).
14 September; Last Sunday I took part at the Eurode Omloop in Kerkrade (Ned). A race over 167 Km with several climbs. Eventually 36 riders reached the finish and I finished in 25th place. Winner was Jetse Bol (Rabobank Continental Team).
07 September; Monday I took part at the criterium in Born (Ned). Halfway the race I could ride away with Thomas Rabou (Realcyclist.com) and Emmanuel van Ruitenbeek (Eddy Merckx-Indeland). Through our good cooperation we built a lead of 45 sec. During the last 10 laps I felt that it would be difficult to win, because my legs were tired from the day before. In the last lap van Ruitenbeek could slip away and in the sprint Rabou was slightly faster then me. Still I'm satisfied with this 3rd place. Photo Dion Kerckhoffs - www.dkfotografie.nl
04 September; Today I started in the Kernen Omloop Echt-Susteren (Ned) UCI 1.2. This was a flat race over 178 Km with a lot of turns. After 100 Km I got a flat tire, but eventually I could quite easily come back. The race ended as expected in a bunch sprint, where I gained a nice 7th place.
Augustus
29 August; Yesterday I took part at GP Ostergaard in Ell (Lux). Early in the race 10 riders escaped, I responded and got within 50 meters of the leaders. However on a long road with tailwind I couldn't catch the leaders. Back in the bunch nobody was riding anymore, for that reason I abandoned.
22 August; Saturday I participated in the pro race in Stolberg-Gressenich (Ger). Here I finished in 13th place. Photo Elmar Krings - www.rexite.de
Sunday I started with the Euregio-CCN Mixteam in the Bergomloop Simpelveld (Ned), unfortunately I abandoned the race after 90 km. This was only the third race of the season which I did not finish.
17 August; Last Sunday I finished in 4th place in Nettetal (Ger). Halfway the race I was assured of the superprime. However at the moment I was convinced that the race would end in a bunchsprint, four riders could escape. In the second last lap I attacked and caught two riders who were riding for the 3rd place. In a millimeter sprint for 3rd place I was narrowly beaten.
10 August; During the Megaland Cycling Weekend in Landgraaf (Ned), I finished on Saturday in 8th place and Sunday in 10th place. Saturday I attacked together with Aldo Klomp in the last kilometer, however the bunch caught us in the last metres. Sunday I attacked from the beginning and I was in the break away of six riders and we stayed in front until halfway the race. When the bunch caught us, four riders attacked and I missed the decisive break away. The last 14 days I competed in 11 races, so now I need to take a recovery week.
POST-TOUR PRO CRITERIUMS
05 August; Mijl van Mares - Maarheeze (Ned). After teammate, Lee Rodgers returned to Taiwan, I was the only rider of Fuji-Cyclingtime.com at the start in the Mile of Mares. Eventually I finished in 16th place. The winner was Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil-DCM).
03 August; Ridderronde Maastricht (Ned). During the Ridderronde in Maastricht I was with teammate, Lee Rodgers, for 20 km in an early break away, featuring Karsten Kroon (BMC) and Laurens Ten Dam (Rabobank). In the last five laps three riders escaped from the bunch. I finished in 11th place and Lee finished in 18th. Winner was my former teammate,Rob Ruijgh (Vacansoleil-DCM). Photo Elmar Krings - www.rexite.de
01 August; Draai van de Kaai - Roosendaal (Ned). In this criterium also Ivan Basso (Liquigas-Cannondale) and Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), winner of the KOM Classification in the Tour de France, took part. After several laps I was in a break away of five riders, with Zdenek Stybar (Quickstep), Jens Mouris (Vacansoleil-DCM), Reiner Honig (Landbouwkrediet) and Luc Hagenaars (Eddy Merckx-Indeland). Our leading group stayed 40 km in front but then the bunch caught us again. De eventual winner was Samuel Sanchez, in front of Ivan Basso and Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil-DCM). Teammate Lee Rodgers finished in 18th and I as 19th.
Juli
31 July; Cityronde van Tiel (Ned). The race in Tiel was a race with a good atmosphere with several riders from the Tour de France, like former teammate Rob Ruijgh and Johnny Hoogerland (both Vacansoleil-DCM) and Lars Boom and Bauke Mollema (both Rabobank). Eventually I finished in 15th place and Lee as 19th. Winner of the race was Laurens Ten Dam (Rabobank).
30 July; Wielerspektakel Steenwijk (Ned). This was a criterium on a 1,8 km course with less then 21 corners. Despite the tortuous course, the race wasn't dangerous and I finished in 15th place, Lee finished 23rd. Winner of the race was Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad), also winner of the time trail in de Tour de France.

29 July; Raboronde Heerlen (Ned). With competitors of the Tour de France like, Mark Cavendisch (HTC-Highroad), Andy Schleck (Leopard-Trek) and Alpe d'Huez stagewinner, Pierre Roland (Europcar), there was a strong startlist. For me personally it's always a nice race because it's a homerace for me. Eventually Andy Schleck became the winner of the Raboronde Heerlen, I finished in 13rd place and teammate Lee Rodgers finished 14th. Photos Elmar Krings - www.rexite.de
28 July; Today Lee and I particpated in the Acht van Chaam (Ned), unfortunately we missed the right break away. In the last lap we could escape out of the bunch with six riders, Lee finished as 25th and I finished in 28th place.
26 July;
Yesterday I took part with my teammate, Lee Rodgers, in the pro kermesse in
Westrozebeke (Bel). There were several riders at the start from the World
Tour teams, HTC High Road, Garmin-Cervelo, BMC, Quick Step and Omega
Pharma-Lotto. After 163 km I finished in the peloton in 38th place. 18 July; Last Saturday I participated in the Ronde van Philippine (Ned), a race with a lot of primes. After I won 10 primes, I finished in 12th place in the race.
11 July; Yesterday I took part in the race in Maren-Kessel (Ned), here I finished in 9th place. Saturday in Krefeld (Ger) I finished in 8th place, but in Krefeld I did have a large number of primes.
04 July; In the Tour of Wolder (Ned), which I participated yesterday, I finished in 15th place. Winner was Floris Goesinnen (Drapac-Porsche).

30 June; Last Sunday I started in the National Championship of The Netherlands for Professionals. This year the National Championship was held in Ootmarsum (Ned) with a total distance of 243 km. After 180 km I got dropped out of the bunch, at that moment there were only 50 riders left in the race. The new Dutch Champion is Pim Lighthart (Vacansoleil-DCM).
My teammate Lee Rodgers won in Singapore the National Championship Time Trail ! In the National Championship Road Race he finished just outside the podium in 4th place.
20 June; Yesterday I participated in the race in Brunssum (Ned), personally I think this is one of the best races in my home area. I had to look how the recovery was from the bad cold I had in the last 3 days. From the beginning I noticed that my legs were okay, so I attacked and Michael Schweizer (Nutrixxion-Sparkasse) joined me. Two laps later several riders joined us and we broke away with five. Eventually we entered the final of the race with 4 riders, Michael Schweizer, Sebastian Forke (both Nutrixxion-Sparkasse), Stefan Cohnen (Differdange-Magic Sportfood.de) and me. Unfortunately Stefan Cohnen crashed on an unlucky way, so I stayed in front with both Nutrixxion-Sparkasse riders, Schweizer and Forke. For me this was a difficult situation and winning became almost impossible. Schweizer attacked in the final lap and I couldn't close the gap anymore. His teammate Forke beated me in the sprint, so I ended up a 3rd place. After almost no training for one week I am very satisfied with this result.
13 Juni; DISTRICT CHAMPION LIMBURG ! Today I won in Hoensbroek (Ned) the District Championship of Limburg in the Elite category. At the same time of our championship, also the championship of the region Brabant South-East was ridden. Eventually I had to sprint with Bob Martens for the victory of the Limburg title, which I finally won.
05 June; Close to my home, but just over the border in Germany, I participated today in the race in Übach-Palenberg (Ger). Halfway the race I was in the decisive break away of 4 riders. Unfortunately I had a flat tire, so I felt pack in the bunch. However at the end I could escape again and gained a 4th place. Winner became my former teammate Stefan Ganser (Eddy Merckx-Indeland).
02 June; Today I took part in the Westfalenpreis in Dortmund-Brackel (Ger). With about 15 km to go we could escape with 7 riders, including Dirk Müller and Sergej Fuchs (both Nutrixxion-Sparkasse), Pim de Beer (Cyclingteam Piels) and Stefan Ganser (Eddy Merckx-Indeland). During the last kilometers I countered an attack by Müller, then his teammate Fuchs jumped and rode solo to the victory. In the sprint for 2nd place, which was uphill, I was not strong enough and I finished after 135 km in 6th place.
Last Sunday I started in GP Ostfenster in Bech (Lux). This was a difficult race in Luxembourg. Early in the race I was in the leading group of 5 riders. Soon it became clear that the winner must come from our group. With 60 km to go Stefan Cohnen (Differdange-Magic Sportfood.de) attacked and rode solo to the victory. His teammate Christian Poos controled the chase and attacked 3 km before the finish. When I wanted to respond his attack I got cramp and I had to let go the other 2 riders. So I finished a little disappointing in 5th place.
May
22 May; Saturday I started in the race in Buchten (Ned). Because of the long straight roads on the course it was difficult to escape from the pack. Eventually former teammate, Stefan Cohnen was able to escape during the penultimate lap and drove solo to the victory. I finished in 4th place.
16 May; Yesterday I participated in the "Bavaria" Ronde van Lieshout (Ned). This was a typical criterium with a lot of corners. I missed the right break away of 5 riders and in the last laps I went in the chase. Eventually I finished in 6th place.
12 May; CYCLINGTIME.com Exclusive Interview: Tjarco Cuppens
11 May; Yesterday I finished in 3rd place in the District Championship of Limburg Time Trail. This Time Trail with a distance of 11,6 km took place in Susteren (Ned). This was the 16th medal for me in a District Championship.
Sunday I participated in the Luxembourg race in Brouch. This was a race of 130 km on a hilly course. After 30 km I was in the decisive break away of 16 riders, but after 80 km my shifter broke and I wasn't able to shift anymore. This meant for me the end of the race.
02 May; Yesterday I participated in the Profronde van Made (Ned). Winner was Sebastian Langeveld (Rabobank) in front of Nick Nuyens (Saxo Bank Sungard) and Johan Vansummeren (Team Garmin-Cervélo). Eventually I finished in 15th place.
Saturday I took part in the Ronde van Geldrop (Ned). Here I finished 4th, but in the result I was 19th. Disqualified the jury said. I would have impeded the local favorite while I was leading the sprint and took the inside corner. They make the finish in a corner and I'm not allowed to take the inside ? It should not get any crazier !
April
17 April; 4th VICTORY OF SEASON, STAGE WIN IN TOUR OF EAST-TAIWAN ! Yesterday I won the 1st stage of the Tour of East-Taiwan (Tpe). After being in a break away before I could escape together with six riders with 30 km to go. With these leaders also the final winner of last year, John Tonks (Champion System), the strong Taiwanese rider Fan Hsin Chu (Giant Kenda Pro Cycling Team) and my teammate Lee Rodgers. Because the last 500m were steep uphill, I decided to attack 2 km before the finish. Despite the headwind I was able to hold it until the finish and could win this stage solo! Lee finished in 6th place.
Today we started in the 2nd stage, a stage of 173 km. I could start in the yellow leaderjersey and we spoke the night before about some different scenarios and unfortunately the worst scenario became the truth. Several Taiwanese team were working together against us. Giant Kenda Pro Cycling Team and Senter-Merida worked well together and took advantage of the weaker teammates which Lee and I had. Eventually three riders escaped and Lee and I had to chase. Dozens of miles we kept the gap around one minute, but eventually we had to stop the chase, because we had no support from other teams. The lead of the three leaders became over 6 minutes and the general classification was over. I finally finished in 12th place in the 2nd stage and in the general classification I finished in 4th place. Despite everything I am satisfied with my victory in the 1st stage.
14 April;
10 April; 3rd PLACE HSINCHU HILL CLIMB. Yesterday I participated together with my Taiwanese teammates in the Hsinchu Hill Climb, this was a hard hill climb race in Taiwan. The course towards the climb was flat but the last 5 km were extremely steep. On the flat part I tried to escape to start with an advance at the climb, however this didn't work out. At the beginning of the climb I had to let a gap at Fan Hsin Chu (Giant Kenda Pro Cycling Team) and Meng Jun Lin (Columbus Cyclingteam), so I finished in 3rd place. Teammate Lee Rodgers finished as 9th, Chih-Wei Lin (Gary) as 11th, Han Yu Lin (Sam) as 13th and Mei Hsing Lin (Nick) as 14th. However Lee had to contend with a broken rearwheel at the bottom of the climb and Gary and Sam were involved in a crash at the flat section.
07 April; Last week I participated in the 6-day stagerace, Princess Mamackakri Sirindhon's Cup Tour of Thailand UCI 2.2. After I finished 8th in the prologue, I was also able to gain some results in the other stages. In the 3rd stage I finished in the bunchsprint in 5th place and in the 5th stage I finished 13th, after my teammate Lee Rodgers finished 3rd of the break away of 3 riders. The 6th stage had a distance of 220 km and early in the race the bunch broke into two pieces. I was the only rider from our team presented in the first group. Also this stage turned out into a bunchsprint in which I gained an 8th place. In the general classification I finished in 44th place. Eventually this was a hard stagerace because of the extreme heat and the long distances of the stages.
01 April;
March
28 March; Yesterday I participated together with Stefan Cohnen in the race in Dippach (Lux). This was a homerace for my former team, Team Differdange-Magic Sportfood.de and also the team of Stefan. I missed the break away of 9 riders and I was in chasing group of 15 riders. At the end some riders get dropped at the front, so we raced for 7th place. With 5 km to go I tried to escape with 4 riders but we got caught one kilometer before the finish. Therefore I didn't sprint anymore and finished as 24th. But after the finish I was happy to hear that my friend Stefan Cohnen (Team Differdange-Magic Sportfood.de) won the race !
21 March; 3rd VICTORY OF SEASON ! My season is perfect so far. Yesterday I took part together with my training partner, Stefan Cohnen (Team Differdange) in the Frühjahrspreis der Gemeinde Börger (Ger). Early in the race we were both in the leading group of nine riders. With 30 km to go Stefan attacked and I was the only rider who was able to react and just like last week we were together in the front again. Because of the wind it was not easy to stay in front, but we made it to the end. Eventually I could win again and gained my 3rd victory of the season. Foto's Heinrich Piper
15 March; CANCELLATION HEL VAN HET MERGELLAND. Yesterday my flights are booked to participate in the Tour of Thailand and Tour of East-Taiwan. However at first I would participate in the UCI 1.1 classic, the Hel van het Mergelland (Ned), which I was selected to race for the National Team led by Ruud Verhagen. I would like to participate in this classic race in Limburg, but unfortunately I had to cancel my participation.
13 March; 2nd VICTORY OF SEASON ! Today I took part in the German race Rund um Düren-Merken. From the start I was in the break away of three riders, together with my former teammate and good friend, Stefan Cohnen (Team Differdange) and Leon Schachtner (PZ Racing Test Team). Our gap to the bunch was gradually growing and finally we stayed ahead the whole race. In the last lap Stefan attacked and only I was able to react. Thus it turned out in a sprint with the two of us, which I eventually won. Photos Elmar Krings - www.rexite.de
08 March; NO TOUR DE TAIWAN ! Today is officially confirmed that Fuji-Cyclingtime.com will not get an invitation for the Tour de Taiwan. It seems that our team is being boycotted by the organization. Our team is registrated as an UCI Continental Team and we have some good riders, such as National Champion of Singapore, Lee Rodgers and the two Japanese riders, Takeshi Igarashi and Shusaku Matsuo. In 2007 I finished 2nd place twice in stages and finished 11th overall. The two other Taiwanese Continental Teams, Giant Kenda Cycling Team and Action Cycling Team do have received an invitation. Our team did receive an invitation for the Tour of Thailand, one week later and the Tour of East-Taiwan.
07 March; Saturday I started with my UCI-team Fuji-Cyclingtime.com in the OCBC Bank Cycle Race in Singapore. The organisation invited several strong riders of Pro Tour and (Pro-)Continental teams. Because the speed was so high there were only 47 riders left at the end. During the last five laps I couldn't move up to the front because of the high speed. I finished as 24th and that means still a prize, something that's worthwhile in Singapore. Winner became the Italian rider Omar Bertazzo (Androni Giocattoli).
February
27 February; Yesterday I participated with my clubteam, Geox-Fuji Test Team, in the Beverbeek Classic (Bel). This was a UCI 1.2 classic in Belgium in the rain and cold. After 50 km I was in the break away of 18 riders which persisted for 95 km. However during the local laps the depleted bunch caught our group again. Eventually two riders were able to escape the bunch and after 176 km the bunch sprinted for 3rd place, I finished as 38th. The winner was Evert Verbist (Veranda's Willems-Accent).
Today I started in the trainingrace in Echt (Ned), just like yesterday in the rain and cold. Almost immediately I noticed that I had bad legs after the hard day yesterday. Still I was in de final break away of six riders, but I didn't sprint anymore so I finished in 6th place. This week I will do some recovery training, before I leave on Thursday to Singapore to participate in OCBC Singapore.
20 February; Today I took part in the Open Clubchampionships of Limburg (Ned). Already soon I was in a break away of 11 riders, however when we lapped the bunch the 13 chasers could also lap the bunch. Thereby there was a big group of 24 riders in front. At the end of the race I tried to attack several times but the group always caught me again. Finally it turned out to be a sprint in which I finished 2nd after Marco Brus (Rucanor-Line Cycling Team). However the race officials decided to disqualify Brus and honored me as the winner of the race, afterwards the result was revised so Brus was the deserved winner in front of me and Dirk Finders (Eddy Merckx-Indeland).
13 February; Today I started in the second trainingrace in Echt (Ned). With 18 riders we lapped the bunch. But because the Continental Team De Rijke participated with 16 riders, they dominated the race. Winner became Bas Krauwel (Cyclingteam De Rijke), I finished in 11th place.
07 February; Yesterday I participated in the first trainingrace in Echt (Ned). Already early in the race I was in a break away of seven riders who lapped the bunch. During the last lap there was an attack of Michael Schweizer (Nutrixxion Sparkasse) but at the moment I closed the gap his teammate Sebastian Forke (Nutrixxion Sparkasse) attacked and won the race. Rik Kavsek (Parkhotel Rooding) became 2nd and I finished in 3rd place.
02 February; COOPERATION WITH GEOX-FUJI TEST TEAM. Today I received the confirmation that I will become a member of the Geox-Fuji Test Team next to my contract with Fuji-Cyclingtime.com. At this way it is also possible for me to participate several classics in Europe. This American club with a base in Belgium, will participate in several Dutch classics and foreign stage races. As a rider of the Continental Team Fuji-Cyclingtime.com it is also allowed to race for a club like Geox-Fuji Test Team.
January
22 January; 1st VICTORY OF SEASON ! Today I participated with my new team, Fuji-Cyclingtime.com, in the Taiwanese race Sixtus Cup. The start took place in Danshui (Tpe) and the finish was at the peak of the 16 km long climb Datún Mountain (Tpe). The trainingsessions around Taichung (Tpe) in the mountains did their work, because I easily could follow the first group up to Datún Mountain. Halfway the climb I even could attack and I had a nice gap of 20 sec. at the chasers. However four riders were able to catch me again, including my teammate, Chih-Wei Lin, but they had to do an extra effort for that. At the steep section during the last 3 km a Taiwanese rider attacked and I was the only rider who was able to follow. In a sprint with two I could gain already my 1st victory of this early season. Also this is my 50th victory of my career. More impressions under Photos Photos French Rank & Annie Chen
